SCD's 2018 SPRING FORECAST

In just about a week, the time will spring forward and we will be enjoying an extra hour of sunshine and the blooming of flowers.  I am so looking forward to spring. Sidney Clark has a fun and fresh look for 2018 and here is what we are seeing a trend towards this season.

1)Colors Lavender and Yellow.... Spring is all about color and these 2 pops of color we will be seeing in clothing, accessories, and shoes. You won't find any shrinking violets with us.  The lavender color started showing up for fall and now it is BIG and BOLD in the fashion scene. It is a fresh and modern look paired with rust, grey, yellow, and white but also works well with neutrals.  The other statement color is what they are calling "mellow yellow", which can be mustard or various strong shades of yellow.  SCD has always favored this color and it works well for many of our customers. This color is fresh to pop with white, grey, navy, and lavender!

2) Statement earrings....another trend SCD has never shyed away from.  We love our earrings to make a BOLD statement and glad to see this look is back on the radar, although it has never been off of ours!!!

3) Transparent....seen in blouses, pants, shirts, dresses, handbags, and shoes.  This is a harder item to wear, but by putting a pretty camisole or bralette underneath, you can make this look elegant and sophisticated.

4) Floral and Prints....are striking up competition.  Mixing of prints with floral, plaids, geometric shapes and stripes is a look I have always loved to do.  Most people don't feel comfortable trying this look, but it gives major mileage to your basic and neutral wardrobe and I love pairing floral with army green, mustard, and of course blush! I will elaborate another time on mixing prints

5) Jean Skirt or Jacket...both are on the trend scene, but jackets are a staple either in denim or a color.  Our denim jacket has a button off fur collar that gives you year round flexibility and an edginess. Wear with a white tee shirt, a fun sweater, or a silky blouse.  Another trend is wearing denim on denim....a throw back to the 80's.

6) Versatile Dress....with warm weather approaching, many parties and graduations are starting up and we need versatile pieces to go from work day to play/evening and back. A mid to long length dress, in a fun statement color, is the perfect day to night dressing attire.  This is a "MUST HAVE" for everyone's closet. 7)White Leggings/Denim....makes every thing look and feel fresh.  Rotate your blue jeans for a pair of white leggings or white denim for a clean take on white.  This will make you look and feel super chic for spring.

STYLE TRICK: CUFFED JEANS & ANKLE BOOTS

Yesterday the weather called for ankle boots to wear while out running errands.  As I was slipping into my jeans, I realized they looked frumpy paired with my cute ankle boots. I decided to try cuffing them....VOILA...instant update and a fresh look to my jeans!  Of course with fall weather, ankle boots are the "IN" trend to pair with our denim and what better time to try out this style trick.  When wearing straight leg jeans with ankle boots, you need to maintain the right proportions.  The idea is to cuff your jeans to where the bottom of your cuff hits just below the top of your boot.  This will determine the amount of times you roll up your hem. You can also cuff your jeans to allow some leg to show between boot and hem of jean when wearing a flared shape leg.  This silhouette gives you more height and some attitude.

Pair your jeans with a simple white tee and a plaid shirt or jacket to go to a ballgame. Or opt to wear pointed toe ankle boots with a slightly over sized sweater and leather trench to meet your friends for lunch. Better yet, wear a classic turtleneck paired with a cool fake fur jacket and some pointy metallic booties for a chic and sophisticated look to wear out on the town.  Another new "HOT TREND" is cropped sweatshirts worn with white kitten heel ankle boots.  Add a pop of color with your sunglasses or a great crossbody bag or mini leather tote and you have a laid back, casual vibe to wear for the day.

Whatever look you choose to wear, breathe some new life into your denim wardrobe.  Just by cuffing your jeans, this simple style trick will have you looking and feeling edgy, fashion forward, and on trend. COLOR PREDICTIONS FOR FALL 2017

One particular color that has dominated fashion for several seasons is the MILLENNIAL PINK....the shade of rose quartz that swept 2017 and became a phenomenon!  Well, unfortunately, it is time to move on and abandon this hue.....I know, it will be hard for me too!!!  The latest new and fresh color hues for Fall to wear instead are:  mustard, burgundy, and lavender.  Mustard and burgundy have been on the radar, but lavender was a big surprise on the spring runways. It is making great strides for fall and pairs well with gray, black, and white.

HOW TO STYLE/WEAR DENIM

Can't believe September is almost gone, but thank goodness cooler weather is around the corner! After my last blog, Denim: Falls Biggest Trend, I have been asked numerous questions; but 2 kept popping up: 1)Can I wear denim head to toe?  2) How do I style my denim?  

1)Can I wear denim head to toe?  Let me assure you......MOST DEFINITELY.  You can chose to wear it layered by wearing different colors of denim or by textures. I love pairing black jeans with a simple blouse and a cool medium wash denim jacket.  Add some chic accessories such as sneakers or ankle booties, a statement purse, and a scarf tied around the neck....VOILA...SIMPLE AND EASY!

2)How do I style my denim?  With jeans now being deconstructed, uneven hems, distressed, frayed, and even coated, most customers don't know what type of shoe or top to pair with their jeans.  Well if you are unsure and want to tread lightly on this look, there is only one other item as universal as jeans, and that is a tee shirt. Pop on a fun, cute statement tee with some fabulous fur lined mules or ankle booties, and a great colorful statement bag and you've got a PERFECT LOOK.  Add a blazer when the weather cools off!

DENIM: FALLS BIGGEST TREND

What can be more versatile than a pair of jeans.  We all have a pair or numerous pairs in our closet.  They are so easy to dress up with heels and a silky cami paired with a leather or suede jacket, or dressed down with sneakers and a simple white tee. Not to mention the ease of throwing them on and being super comfy all day and into the night!  The denim trend has evolved so much over the years and this season we bet you will want to put one of these trends into rotation in your wardrobe. 1) FRINGE- They were big for Spring/Summer and will continue into the Fall. This look adds a fun, festive, and flirty look to your wardrobe.

2) PEARLS- Talk about dressing up your jeans, pearls as well as sparkles will bring your night game outfit up several notches.

3) SIDE STRIPES- Trending like crazy, this sporty look with side stripes has a race track edginess.  This will make you look super cute and stylish. Perfect for teaming with all the cute sneakers offered for this Fall.

4) UNEVEN HEM- Still making waves from this Spring, the uneven hem is wearable for anyone and is perfect to wear with any of your tops.  This staggered hemline is perfect worn with heels, or with metallic/brocade boots, but also adorable worn with furry slides or sneakers to allow your footwear to be on display!

5) TWO TONED- One MAJOR feature this Fall is the two toned denim.  This new fashion trend of mixing 2 denim washes is a fun and fresh way to change your jeans.  The look can be subtle or more contrasting depending on how you want to display this look. The trend is to mix denim with denim both on top and bottom!

6) DECONSTRUCTED- Deciding between a denim skirt/jean combination, an illusion of denim cutoffs paired with darker jeans, or 2 different recontructing of the jean's hem or leg are only a few options to wearing this fun trend.

QUICK FIX FOR FRAYED FRINGE/TASSELS

With FRINGE AND TASSELS embellished on all aspects of fashion these days, this style can sometimes create chaos!  Silk and cotton fringe/tassels on earrings, clothing, shoes, handbags, and even pillows can fray or get tangled over a period of time.  One quick way to fix this I have found is to hold your fringe or tassel with a hook or on a hanger, so you won't burn your hands. Then take a hand held steamer or a regular steamer and carefully place the steam under your fringe or tassel, letting the steam flow thru starting at the top of the fringe/tassel and work your way down. Then do the same to the front of the fringe/tassel starting from top and work down to the bottom of the fringe.   You may have to do this a few times to get the ends of your fringe/tassels to stay flat.  Hope you find this information helpful. Please leave comments as to how it worked for you.  We love hearing from our customers. 2017 NEW FALL TRENDS

Just a quick blog to let our Sidney Clark customers in on the "NEW LOOKS" FOR FALL 2017.  It's official:

1) RED is "the color" for Fall.  I happen to love this color, but I have a friend who doesn't wear red AT ALL!  She is such a fashionista, and I bet with this color trending so big for Fall, she will embrace the look and give it a try.

2) VINTAGE INSPIRED FURS that look like they were purchased from an estate sale.

3) BOOTS THAT GLITTER with lots of sparkle and shine is the new trend for boots.

4) WESTERN STYLE LOOKS that are not completely a Western front look, but modernized such as a steel-toed boot, leather/suede vests and jackets, cowhide, leopard prints, and the kitschy cacti.

5) 70'S PLAID is back and this fall season the versatile print plaid was seen in pants, blouses, coats, and even formal wear.

6) RETRO HATS are taking over the beanies and surfacing as brim felt caps and bucket hats, as well as the look of vintage inspired shearling and fur hats.

7) VICTORIAN COLLARS are being called the "turtleneck's fancy older sister."

8) BROAD SHOULDERS that many of us wore in the 80's, is making a comeback and being shown in oversized menswear blazers and jackets.

9) NYLON COATS are perfect for traveling, chic, super wearable, and easy to pack wrinkle free in your suitcase.  Everyone needs one of these!!!

10) DECONSTRUCTED CLASSICS is a new look by removing entire sleeves, mixing different fabrics and materials, raw edges and hems, ruffles placed diagonally....all a kind of tipsy-turvy classic look.

11) FISHNETS are being worn by fashion bloggers with their distressed denim, but for fall, the fashion is to pair these stockings with feminine dresses, blazers, suede and leather, and also your distressed jeans.

12) COUCH FLORALS are showing up again this fall, but this vintage floral print is being seen in EVERYTHING from casual tops to evening gowns!

13) MID LENGTH SKIRTS have many designers focusing on the soft ballet or pleated style for fall.  Skirts hemmed at the calf with a lot of full and flouncy movement are being shown as well as the soft or pleated mid length skirt in such fabrics as tulle, mesh, and metallics that are flowy and feminine.

14) BUTTONED UP on the slits of skirts, or button down on the sides of skirts, pants, tops, and jackets/coats are shown as a new trend.

15) CHOCOLATE BROWN is definitely the "NEW BLACK."

16) WIDE WAIST BELTS are making their comeback for fall and in all the right proportions.

17) RUSSIAN DOLL VIBES such as fur collars and detailed floral embroidery sprinkled on dresses, jackets, kimonos, vest, pants, bags, and even shoes and boots.Think opulent details for a fall investment in some of these items.

18) FORMAL VELVET is not only trending with designers in day to day wear; but they are also taking this rich fabric and making it into formalwear.  ***Keep this in mind this fall and winter for your wedding attire.

19) BELTED COATS  is a major styling trend for fall, popping up on statement furs, leather coats, trend coats, all kinds of outerwear by belting these items with a waist cinching belt.

Although this is what is being shown for Fall, there are still many trends and colors still around for this season. Black will always be a basic color and a staple in our wardrobes for most of us. Also olive, grey, oatmeal, paprika, mustard, plum, and teal are still colors that are going strong as well as tassels, fringe, beads, and embroidery details on many forms of merchandise and accessories. Pant and skirt waists are being styled as high waisted jeans, pants, and skirts to help eliminate the muffin top the lower waist bottoms created! WORK AND PLAY DRESSES/MULTIPLE USES

Great dresses are always difficult to find; especially one that's polished enough for work, but relaxed enough for our summer heat!  Sidney Clark Design has THREE that will be perfect for the office and also translate into fun, casual play attire, with multi-functional options.

SCD FAVORITES: CAROL'S CHOICES

Can't believe it's Friday again!  I am Carol, the third owner of Sidney Clark Designs.  As I said earlier in my previous 2 blogs, I will be sharing my personal favorites from SCD'S new summer arrivals.  Unlike my partners, Lindsay and Mary Lynn, I am unable to wear each item we order. My instincts are always investigating and searching for clothing to service the larger woman. Being a size 12, it is getting much harder to find clothing that not only fits, but looks good and can service my everyday needs.  This is where our line, Yana K by Yana Khronova comes in, and it is all made in the "GOOD OLD USA."  This awesome line is so versatile and ideal for traveling and perfect for our Memphis/Nashville weather; so naturally it is my first choice! I featured a blog on Yana K back on September 11, 2016.....check it out here.  As my first choice and a favorite is the Sonja Mini Dress with Pockets in Poppy Red, making this the perfect piece to wear for the upcoming July 4th festivities.  This amazing basic is so simple to dress up or down as a top, as a tunic over pants, jeans, skirt, or as a dress.  As you can see by clicking through our photos, this clean and basic piece will become your wardrobe staple. Being a One Size, smaller gals can take one of the sides, gather it up and tie into a knot or tie off with a hair elastic to bring the fullness in, making the shape drape and fall closer to your body.  Another wonderful feature to this line is, it's perfect to wear for maternity and also afterwards!!!!  If something is spilled on it or your baby spits up, all you need to do is throw in the washing machine and line dry.  How simple and easy can you get.  This is MY KIND of workhorse basic, which is why it is my favorite and will be my summer staple.

My other choice and just as versatile is the Hurricane Coral Printed Kimono.  Prints are so huge right now and what better piece to add to your summer basics than this coral and sage kimono jacket for a "POP OF COLOR."  I LOVE how this piece can be thrown over our Grey Frayed Hem Drawstring Shorts with a fun tank, or over our skinny jeans and a t-shirt/tank for a casual and relaxed mood.  If you are going to the beach, use it as a jacket over a simple tank dress, or also wear it as your beach cover up, instead of a scarf!  I'm all about making my clothing work in numerous and versatile ways, so try turning this kimono upside down. Now it becomes a short unconstructed bolero....so cute and edgy.  The options are countless (can also be worn for maternity or afterwards). This jacket is only $35 and another item that can be thrown into the washing machine and line dry, making it another favorite and awesome summer staple. This kimono lends itself to transitioning into the Fall. Now that's what I call "VERSATILITY!"

SCD FAVORITES: MARY LYNN'S CHOICES

Oh what a gorgeous day to wake up to blue skies and the sound of bird's chirping and singing in the fresh morning air.  Even though I am not a morning person and summer has arrived, I love going out in my yard to admire all the hard work my husband, Philip, and I have done in landscaping and planting our flowers and vines.  Another hard job, but not the sweat, is finding unique and flexible clothing that people would love, be able to translate and gain year round use, and making these items their choices!

As I promised, today I am showcasing Mary Lynn's "FAVORITE CHOICES."  Just like Lindsay, Mary Lynn can put on anything and look FABULOUS, so it is difficult for her to narrow down her favs. One major "hit" for her and a lot of our customers has been the "Relaxed Fit Top with Pocket" in light olive.  This tunic top is so versatile to wear as a dress with a bralette or tee shirt underneath, as a tunic over denim, and also as a swimsuit cover up.  The raw edge asymmetrical front pocket, lower sides, razor back, and comfy, casual vibe lets you know why this item would be anyone's "FAVORITE."

SCD FAVORITES: LINDSAY'S CHOICES

Our Shrimp Boil Party last weekend was a huge success and yes, we all three wore Maxi dresses. Unfortunately, I was not able to get the three of us together to take a picture; but I will try for the next party.  Thank goodness it's FRI-YAY!!!  I am looking forward to a weekend of having NOTHING TO DO.  Our next 3 weekends will be filled with 4th of July festivities at the lake, rehearsal dinner and a wedding the next weekend, and a wedding party for friends the following weekend!  Even though there are lots of parties taking place soon, SCD has gotten in some fun and exciting new merchandise.  Check out our "WHAT'S NEW" section on the website.

For the next week, we each will be featuring 2 of our favorite items that have just arrived.  Today, I am concentrating on Lindsay's favorites.  Lindsay always looks adorable in just about everything we order, but these 2 picks are a notch above as her FAVS.  The "Life is Good Jumpsuit" will be your SUMMER UNIFORM.  This awesome and fun jumper is made out of tencel, giving it a soft and lightweight feel to this denim fabric.  It boost a racerback, button front, and a drawstring waist to adjust for ease, flexibility, and comfort.  The pants are cuffed at the bottom making this a perfect item for the hot summer days ahead.

RAINY DAYS AND MONDAYS!

Another week has blown by and it's Monday again.  Rainy days and Mondays always get me down!  How I hate starting the week off with rain, but thankful we aren't experiencing the storms we had over Memorial Day weekend. As summer approaches, there are lots of parties, festivities, outdoor concerts, and trips to the beach taking place.  Sidney Clark Designs has some great options to wear for any of these occasions.

Maxi dresses have become a great item for parties, weddings, and tropical vacations.  They have it all....casually stylish, feminine, easy to pack, comfy, and elegant.  They are versatile for wearing at the beach, to the park or zoo, entertaining at home, outdoor concerts, shopping at the mall, dressy affairs, or even going out for dates!  Maxis can be worn for both summer and winter months.  By switching fabrics and color, adding a tee or fitted turtleneck underneath, or a jacket and boots, you will look chic and appropriate for any season.  As for styling a maxi, one can easily change the look and mood of the dress with colorful accessories, clutch purses such as a mini straw tote or bamboo clutch, a scarf, a denim or leather jacket, or a pair of trendy shoes, such as sneakers. MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND ESCAPES

Taking a three day weekend trip, whether to the beach, lake, or a fun city, we all want to optimize our time off and pack with style and comfort in mind, no matter our destination!  Whether it's last minute or planned ahead, packing can be a big HASSLE!!! Here are some savvy packing tips to help keep you looking stylish and not having to take numerous outfits and shoes.

1)  Always pack outfits for your getaway for at least 3 occasions:  a casual brunch or afternoon lunch, a day of sightseeing or shopping, and for that night out on the town or to your favorite restaurant. With this in mind, choosing items that are lightweight like a denim dress or jumpsuit, a tank dress, or a cool maxi dress can always be dressed up or down by changing your shoes and jewelry.

2) If you want to be less casual, always add your outfit basics. along with some ON TREND items to amp up your look such as these light wash denim shorts with a cute on-trend black tie front tassel/embroidered tank top and a pair of flip flops.  To take it into evening, pair the top with our two tone frayed jeans , our modern hoop gold earring and gold hammered anvil cuff, and a pair of gladiators or wrap around the ankle sandals.  Perfect for a less casual dining out atmosphere!

3)The key to packing for a long MD weekend is to add interchangeable and lightweight pieces that are in hues or prints that can be mixed and matched taking the HASSLE out of what to wear. Making first good impressions is always a priority with us SCD girls!  Even if you have on a simple t-shirt and your favorite jeans, a statement earring can amp up your look considerably...making that first good impression.  What was once "BIG" in the 1980's accessory scene, is now BACK!!!  A pair of gorgeous statement earrings will keep your look fresh and interesting, solving a lot of your styling issues.

Purchasing a major pair of earrings in a "POP" color you normally don't wear, such as these, will take your basic wardrobe pieces from drab to fab.  An add of PIZZAZZ, like these, can be edgy and fun, making your staple items easier to mix and match with this statement earring.
